Take a movement class
Previous | Next

Unlike ballroom dancing which requires a partner, or a tightly choreographed chorus line, in so-called "movement" classes, each participant is focused on his or her own movement and sensation. Many colleges, centers for art/theater/dance instruction, and even health clubs and spas offer some form of movement classes. Consider one with live drumming rather than recorded music, if that's an option.

One of the best known movement innovators whose work is widely available on videotape is Gabrielle Roth. The basic set of movements that she called The Wave explores five distinct rhythms.
