Personal Practices: Spirit
Blessings on this meal
Previous | Next

Every spiritual tradition has a practice of asking Spirit for blessings on a meal about to be eaten and giving thanks for that meal. Many of our meals are taken on the run, eaten at our desks, or in serial fashion at the dining room table around our family's conflicting scheduled activities. Even when we are alone at table, or eating a protein bar in our car, we can pause to ask for the food to be blessed. If you do not follow a particular tradition, the practice might be as simple as holding your hands momentarily over the food and asking that it nourish you in body and spirit.
