Personal Practices: Story

Stories can entertain, teach, enlighten. Storytelling in a group creates a feeling of wholeness and connection, within and between the members. Although some professions, such as those of counselor or minister, encourage their members to become competent storytellers, other professions implicitly or explicitly value "the headline" or "the bottom line" over the story, the objective facts over the subjective experience. Regardless of our natural tendency or training, we can all learn to become more proficient storytellers, helping to facilitate group dynamics through the power of story.
